I have been a member for almost one year. During this time, my company has experienced and has benefited from interacting with the professional staff at NY-BEST and other NY-BEST members. The organization’s dedication to advocating for the importance and need for energy storage in the power landscape, professional education, encouraging the health and advocating for the growth of this industry sector and providing technical expertise is superb and is vital to growth of the energy storage industry sector.
Please describe your experience with the Battery & Energy Storage Industry:
I founded Ashlawn Energy to develop and commercialize Ashlawn Energy’s VanCharg™ vanadium redox flow battery energy storage system with the assistance of the U.S. Department of Energy. We also have broad experience in developing hydrogen fuel cell power supplies.
Please describe why you would be a good candidate for the board:
I believe in the vital importance, mission and role of energy storage to transform the power landscape, enabling it to incorporate renewable and distributed energy solutions, increasing the security and resiliency of the grid, enabling users to manage their electricity demand, and to reducing greenhouse gases. My experience includes my two-year term as President of Women in Defense, where I led the effort to increase associaation membership from 250 to 1,000 during this time.
Norma Byron is the President and founder of Ashlawn Energy LLC. Ms. Byron has a long history and passion of working to bring innovative and transformative technologies to the world. Her background includes working with the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, state and municipal governments, and commercial enterprises seeking to reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint. Ashlawn obtained the original technology license, patented technology improvements, and established a U.S. manufacturing base to deploy the Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Technology in the United States. Ashlawn Energy’s current opportunities are the positive results of her dedication, vision, hard work and single-mindedness of purpose. She has created unique business models and has formed strategic partnerships with communities and business partner who share a passion for taking local control over the availability and the price of power and reducing greenhouse gases. Ms. Byron has a B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, and an MBA from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia.
