The New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology (NY-BEST) Consortium is hosting its Annual Fall Energy Storage Technology and Innovation Conference on October 2, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester, New York.

Conference Overview:

NY-BEST is hosting a stimulating one-day conference on the latest innovations and technological advances in the rapidly growing field of energy storage technology, including:

  • innovations in energy storage technologies
  • new business models for energy storage
  • expanding market applications for storage
  • energy storage supply chain and manufacturing
  • energy storage testing and commercialization


Conference Format:

The Conference agenda will include informative keynotes, featured presentations, panels and roundtable discussions featuring experts in the storage field.  Keynotes and featured presentations are typically 15-20 minutes. Panel sessions typically include 4-5 speakers presenting for approximately 10 minutes each. Roundtable discussions will include a moderated Q&A among 4-5 speakers. Each session will have a Q&A with the audience after presentations have concluded. The Conference will also feature a company exhibition area, along with a technical poster session for students and start-ups.


Alicia Barton
President and CEO
New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)

Ms. Barton has held public and private sector leadership roles advancing clean energy projects and companies for over a decade including serving as co-chair of the Energy and Cleantech Practice at Foley Hoag, LLP, chief of operations of the Global Utility business unit at SunEdison and chief executive officer of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), a publicly supported agency that funds and accelerates the development of the clean energy sector. Prior to serving as CEO of MassCEC, Ms. Barton was the Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Planning for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP); Assistant Secretary for Environmental Review and Director of the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) office; and Deputy General Counsel at the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA).


Betty Watson
Senior Manager of Energy Policy

Betty Watson is Senior Manager of Energy Policy at Tesla, after serving as Director of Policy and Electricity Markets at SolarCity.  Ms. Watson’s work includes developing strategies and policies for battery storage, microgrids, utility business models for distributed resources, and wholesale energy markets.  Before joining SolarCity, Ms. Watson worked in the Office of Energy Policy and Innovation at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where she advised the Commission on wholesale electricity markets and transmission policy.  Prior to that, she completed an Energy and Environment Fellowship with the Regulatory Assistance Project, working on energy regulatory issues in the United States, European Union, China, and India.  She received her Master of Environmental Management degree, in the Energy Concentration, from The Nicholas School at Duke University.

Technical Posters:

NY-BEST invites energy storage researchers, academics, students, and companies to share your groundbreaking work with leaders in the clean energy field. We invite you to submit a poster presenting your work on technological advances and innovations in energy storage and clean energy to display at the conference. Student posters are eligible for prizes. 

The Conference will include a dedicated exhibit area for the Technical Poster session and conference attendees will visit posters during networking breaks, lunch and the reception. Poster summaries will be included in the online and print version of the event program. Students are invited to present verbal one-minute summaries of their posters during a special lightning roundsession of the Conference.

Submission Deadline: Tuesday, September 17, 2019

If you are interested in presenting a poster of your work at this conference, please submit a 1-2 page summary with the following information:

  • Identify the Category of your poster: Academic, Student, or Company
  • Name(s), company or institution, contact information (email and phone)
  • Project Title
  • Project Description including: Background/Introduction, Objectives, Methods, Results and  Conclusions
  • Brief biographies of author(s)
  • Previous presentations of the information (when and where)
  • Name and brief bio of individual presenting, if selected

NY-BEST requests poster submissions provide sound technical information that demonstrates innovation in the field of energy storage or clean energy and refrain from commercial marketing.  Marketing presentations will not be considered for the Poster Session.

Poster submissions must be submitted electronically to NY-BEST at weaver@ny-best.org no later than 5:00 PM ET on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.  Please include “NY-BEST Technical Poster Submission” in the subject line of your submission.


Conference attendees will vote on student posters and prizes will be awarded to the top three posters at the end of the reception (must be present to win):
