Energy Storage Technology: Understanding the Essentials

This online course will provide busy professionals with an understanding of energy storage technologies that are driving transformational change in the way energy is used.

Course Overview:

This online course will provide busy professionals with an understanding of energy storage technologies that are driving transformational change in the way energy is used. Taught by renowned expert in the energy storage field, Prof. Daniel Steingart of Columbia University, the course will examine energy storage technologies from thermal storage to flywheels, ultracapacitors, batteries, flow batteries and fuel cells. Attendees will gain an understanding of how different energy storage technologies work, their benefits and limitations, as well as areas of continued technology developmentThe course is comprised of five one-hour webinar classes taught over the course of five weeks, with one class per week. Classes will be recorded with attendees receiving access to all recordings.

Who Should attend:

Energy professionals interested in better understanding the rapidly growing field of energy storage and the technologies driving transformational change in how energy is used. If you are an engineer, renewable energy developer, electric utility professional, energy investor, government official, clean energy policy wonk or just interested in learning more about energy storage technologies, this course is a must.

Course Instructor: Associate Professor, Dr. Daniel Steingart, Columbia University

Dan Steingart is an Associate Professor of earth and environmental engineering at Columbia University and he is the Co-Director of the Columbia Electrochemical Energy Center (CEEC). The CEEC was established to address energy storage and conversion using batteries and fuel cells in transformative ways that will ultimately enable the widespread use of renewable energy and the associated need for energy storage. Dr. Steingart previously served as an Associate Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University. He earned his doctorate in Materials Science at University of California Berkeley.
