Vice President, Distributed Energy Resources
In 2014 David Sandbank joined NYSERDA to run Governor Cuomo’s $1 billion NY-Sun initiative and has overseen the largest year-over-year growth of solar in New York State. David’s past experience as a solar developer brought real market experience and industry perspective to turn the program into a true private / public partnership. Since David has joined the program he has brought about many changes focusing on programmatic efficiency, lowering costs for solar developers and making solar available for all New Yorkers. As a result, PV installed capacity has increased over 390% and costs have come down by 33%.
Vice President Innovation
John Lochner joined NYSERDA as Vice President, Innovation in 2019. John Lochner founded Headland Advisors, which advises on and structures investments in sustainability-focused opportunities. As an investor in and advisor to businesses in water, energy, and sustainable resource management, he formerly served in leadership and advisory positions at Natural Resources Defense Council and Locus Energy. His experience in renewable energy includes work as a consultant to the Department of Energy, as a Board member, Treasurer, and Member of the Executive Committee of the Solar Energy Finance Association (SEFA), and as an investment banker in the Global Energy Group at Credit Suisse, where Lochner executed transactions across the traditional and renewable power sectors. He is a graduate of Duke University and received an MA from Harvard University and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
