The New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology (NY-BEST) Consortium is hosting its Annual Fall Energy Storage Technology and Innovation Conference on October 2, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester, New York.

Conference Overview:

NY-BEST is hosting a stimulating one-day conference on the latest innovations and technological advances in the rapidly growing field of energy storage technology, including:

  • innovations in energy storage technologies
  • new business models for energy storage
  • expanding market applications for storage
  • energy storage supply chain and manufacturing
  • energy storage testing and commercialization

 

Conference Format:

The Conference agenda will include informative keynotes, featured presentations, panels and roundtable discussions featuring experts in the storage field.  Keynotes and featured presentations are typically 15-20 minutes. Panel sessions typically include 4-5 speakers presenting for approximately 10 minutes each. Roundtable discussions will include a moderated Q&A among 4-5 speakers. Each session will have a Q&A with the audience after presentations have concluded. The Conference will also feature a company exhibition area, along with a technical poster session for students and start-ups.

David Sandbank
Vice President, Distributed Energy Resources

In 2014 David Sandbank joined NYSERDA to run Governor Cuomo’s $1 billion NY-Sun initiative and has overseen the largest year-over-year growth of solar in New York State. David’s past experience as a solar developer brought real market experience and industry perspective to turn the program into a true private / public partnership. Since David has joined the program he has brought about many changes focusing on programmatic efficiency, lowering costs for solar developers and making solar available for all New Yorkers. As a result, PV installed capacity has increased over 390% and costs have come down by 33%.

John Lochner
Vice President Innovation
NYSERDA

John Lochner joined NYSERDA as Vice President, Innovation in 2019.   John Lochner founded Headland Advisors, which advises on and structures investments in sustainability-focused opportunities. As an investor in and advisor to businesses in water, energy, and sustainable resource management, he formerly served in leadership and advisory positions at Natural Resources Defense Council and Locus Energy. His experience in renewable energy includes work as a consultant to the Department of Energy, as a Board member, Treasurer, and Member of the Executive Committee of the Solar Energy Finance Association (SEFA), and as an investment banker in the Global Energy Group at Credit Suisse, where Lochner executed transactions across the traditional and renewable power sectors. He is a graduate of Duke University and received an MA from Harvard University and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Sarah Van Cleve
Manager, US Energy Policy
Tesla

Sarah manages Tesla’s US energy policy team, directing Tesla’s engagements with regulators and legislators on policies affecting the development of energy storage and solar photovoltaic resources. She guides Tesla’s efforts on various energy policy issues related to utility-scale and customer-sited systems, including resource planning, resource procurement, rate design, interconnection, and wholesale market design. Prior to her four years at Tesla, Sarah led energy storage policy at Southern California Edison where she helped guide the utility’s groundbreaking procurement of more than a gigawatt-hour of energy storage systems. Sarah started her career as a financial analyst in electricity and emissions markets working in operations, trading, and market design. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from UCLA.

Dan Bradley is a senior leader at Navigant Consulting who works with clients on strategy and transformation within the energy sector.  Dan is known for innovative approaches that help clients position themselves for growth as the industry rapidly transforms. Working on high impact strategy and regulatory engagements across the utility, investor, and manufacturing sectors, a creative and collaborative style has been key to his success during his over 20 years with Navigant.  Dan has authored articles and has appeared on Podcasts discussing emerging technologies, new business models, non-wire alternative, distributed energy resources and innovation in a century old industry.  In 2019, Consulting magazine named Dan a Top 25 Consultant in the management consulting industry.
