CORNELL UNIVERSITY boasts more than 100 interdisciplinary research organizations, bringing faculty and students together from across the university to pursue research, teaching, and outreach on broad scholarly and social topics like nano fabrication, life sciences, computing and information science, environmental sustainability & human development, agriculture, space research, international issues, and energy technologies. The work of these Centers and Institutes is aligned with state, national and global needs, providing direct benefits to individuals, groups, and the public good. Among the Cornell centers whose missions bear direct relevance to the mission of NY BEST are the Center for Energy and Sustainability, www.emc2.cornell.edu, Energy Materials Center at Cornell. In these centers, critical research is underway to advance technologies of advanced lithium ion batteries, super capacitors and other electrical energy storage devices. Both Centers work closely with Industry partners from around New York State, and beyond. By building long term partnerships with companies. Cornell Centers are able to see the long-term technology challenges of the developing products. The successful partnerships develop plans for overcoming these challenges by prioritizing how to direct research resources at Cornell to these persistent technology hurdles. Cornell research is committed to knowledge transfer and engages in technology transfer and economic development activities that benefit local, state, national, and international constituents.
