Energy Storage Permitting and Interconnection Process Guide for New York City: Lithium-Ion Outdoor Systems

The City University of New York (CUNY) Smart Distributed Generation Hub (DG) Hub, the Fire Department of New York (FDNY), NYC Department of Buildings (DOB), Con Edison and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) worked together to develop the first comprehensive set of guidelines for installing energy storage systems. This document provides a checklist for energy storage project developers to follow when they are siting energy storage projects in New York City. Both the NYC Department of Buildings and Fire Department of New York had substantial input on this document, and it represents a significant step forward for the deployment of energy storage in the City. The Guide focuses on siting of outdoor lithium ion battery systems, including roof top installations. NYSERDA and CUNY are continuing their work with the City in relation to siting indoor systems.
